Fun around the Ranch!!

With having five acres there is a lot to do.  Taking care of the Chickens , Rabbits, Turkeys, Ducks and Guinea's.  Along with the Kitties, and the 2 dogs.

Yesterday while Brent was out I got the front yard mowed  and one side and some of the back.  It's nice out there riding listening to music and just having a great time.
Also worked on one of the flower beds in the front and got all the weeds and grass out of it.  Now I just need to work on the big area that is in need of a lot of care.  There are some flowers in the back so really need to get it done.

All the poultry were let out early this morning to free range as it is suppose to be really hot.  Hopefully they are smart enough to find a cool place under a tree this afternoon and stay out of the sun.  Don't need any fried chickens today.  :)

The recent rains filled the soon to be duck pond back up and they are loving it.  It is a race in the mornings to see who gets there first in the mornings.

The Guineas have also started laying and have been getting about 3 eggs a day so far. Now we just need to figure out what we are going to do with them.  We already have 7 so not sure we need anymore.

My Mimosa trees that I bought several months ago are starting to do great.  I bought 6 off eBay.  It was a ruff start with several of them. So far it looks like 5 out of 6 are going to make it.  Some think I am crazy for planting them, but I have always wanted some.  Can't wait until I see my first pink flowers on them.

The mommy rabbit that had her babies in the burrow in the ground brought them up today.  I went out to check on the rabbits to see if they were doing OK with the heat and saw one of the kitties looking at something.  That's when I saw the babies.

Cadburys babies are growing so fast.  Their eyes are open and they are even starting to jump out of the box.  Every time I go out I  have to put a few back in the box.

On days like this Some of the rabbits get ice bottles.  They love it and the ones on the floor stay by the water cooler.Helps keep them cooler.

Another Week on the Ranch!

It was kinda a lazy week on the ranch.  Didn't get a lot of things done.  I went to Oklahoma Wed. afternoon and came home Thursday afternoon for a funeral of a friend.  These pics are a few taken around my parents place.  A lot of our chickens and all our Guineas came from my parents place.

What makes a Ranch look really good.  Getting that yard cut and trimmed and have flowers blooming.  I got out the other day and was able to get most of the yard mowed before Brent got home from work and then he finished up before dinner.
My Wildflower bed is sure getting pretty.  So many new flowers blooming .  Just think. All the seeds that fall this year should be even more next year.

We have moved 7 more of the grow out rabbits to the outside yard.  That makes 17 out there now.  There are so many deep holes out there.  Who knows how far they go.  They all seem to really be  having fun outside.

Billy our Rabbit that runs where ever he wants has been coming up here by the house now.  His range is getting bigger and bigger.
We have a Rex in the barn that is running on the floor that has had a litter in there in a burrow.  We should know in a few weeks how many she had.  Cannot wait. So exciting.
There is a hole there. We had to put wood there so as not to step on it.

Each week we are getting around 8-10 dozen eggs. Our chickens are raised on non medicated feed and are Free Range.  Our eggs are picked up everyday and are cleaned and put in new cartons for you.
Don't you really want some Real Farm Fresh Eggs instead of these Farm Fresh eggs??

 Until next week,

Make Hay While the Sun is Shining !

The old saying, May Hay While the Sun is Shining, is going on here.  We have a lot of Prairie grass and so we have been cutting it for the rabbits to eat and to also use for nesting material.
First Brent got out on the tractor with the brush hog and mowed it down. Then he raked it up in rows.  He would go out once or twice a day and turn it so it would all dry. Then a few nights ago we went out there and with a large trash can and some twine made some grass bales.  Before that we just put it in feed sacks with a lot of holes in the sacks .

My garden did not produce the way I had hoped. The tomatoes are still growing well, as is the little bit of corn I planted.  Yesterday I got out and pulled out all the onions and all the garlic.  I finally have a great crop of Onions. I am so excited.  I have also been digging up new potatoes and picking some Zucchini.  The lettuce, Kale, Radishes, carrots and broccoli which I had been able to harvest from was eat up by the Grasshoppers.  UGH~~~~~~
An then there is the unexpected crop of turnips we have.  I am going to try and cook some to see if we like them.

We finally have all the fence put up.  Which is great because I noticed the other day that the neighbor across the street that has all the dogs took their fence down.  Now all we have to do is remember to keep the gate closed and then we also want to go around it and put down some stakes in the ground around the bottom part of the wire to hold it down.

The Grow out on the floor of the barn and their two buddies , Trampas and Betsey are getting along great as you can see by the photos below. The kitties are going out and exploring a lot more and going out farther than they had been. Yesterday they even made it out to the duck yard and were running around and playing in there with them.  But when it gets hot, they head back yo the barn where it is cooler and take their naps there.
The big brown Rex that lives on the floor out there has been breed and trying to decide where she is going to make here nest.  She dug one hole, but then covered it up. So not sure where she is going to have here babies if she is indeed preg.

The outside rabbits are doing great and loving their dirt pile we gave them.  They dig and lay all over it and play Queen of the hill.  One of their burrows has gotten much bigger by looking at the size of the dirt pile outside.
Billy the rabbit that runs around was inside for a few days and while he was his girlfriend came looking for him.  If you look close in the picture below you will see a little cotton tail out by the grow outs in the middle of the day.

When we are out working both dogs usually come out with us by before long they end up just laying down. Robin said nope, This is as far I am going and Fred usually just runs back to the house to lay down on the porch.  Robin is loving the country life!
Until next week!
