Getting a Head Start on Spring.

     Getting the ground for the garden area broken up. This is where the ducks have been living since fall. So there should be plenty of fertilizer in the ground.   We cleaned out about 4 or 5 wheel barrel loads of rabbit poop and put out there also.
     There will be a path going to the barn and hopefully this will be a better garden than last year.  The ducks and chickens will be in back of the barn. Brent will be plowing this up several more times before spring getting it all broke up and turned over several more times.

     After Brent was finished plowing the ducks and chickens scratched and poked around and then just went to sleep. The Guineas yelled at Brent the whole time he was plowing .

     We shoveled several loads of rabbit poop to take outside before Brent plowed.  Afterwards while I was putting down fresh straw I had a little help. Miss Trampas decided to help.  We also let the chickens in to scratch it around and help get it undone a little more.

     This picture is the small flock house.  Guess they thought they just needed to get all their business taken care of  at one time. Some days we get 9 to 10 eggs from this group of hens.  Altogether we are getting 13 to 14 eggs a day now from the chickens and 8-9 eggs from the ducks.   The bottom pic. is from this morning.

BamBam Holsters is branching out.  He is making Cell Phone holders and I am making Koozies.

What a Year it Has Been !!!!!!!

     Talking to my mother this morning, it is hard to believe that it has been almost a year since we bought this place.  My first picture I took after we signed was a sunset picture. So today's blog is going to start with a sunset picture. We closed on our little Ranch on Feb. 6th last year.

      Maxine's babies are getting so big.  Their eyes are open and they are jumping in and out of the box now.  She had 7. Not sure I ever posted that.  Wont be much longer before they start staying out of the box bugging mom and then she will be wanting to stay in the box or sit on top of it to stay away from them.
     The girls in the rabbits barn are getting such beautiful colors. Their brown colors on their ears, nose's , feet are so dark and now their dewlaps are getting grey.
      Bugs started out and beautiful little tan bunny.  Now he is a such a a beautiful Red Rex.  He is such lover just like his daddy. Both of them want loving when you go to feed them.

     The girls are finally back in full swing .  WOOT ! WOOT!   We are getting 9 to 13 chicken eggs a day and 3-5 duck eggs a day now.  Funny thing is, that most  of the eggs are coming from the small flock of hens.  One day we got 9 eggs from the group alone and there are 12 girls in that run.
      After my sister in law made some chicken and Dumplings I decided to keep the stock and can it and I now have 16 jars of Chicken Stock.

     Because of a mouse problem in the barn , the cats are now sleeping in the middle part of the barn at night.  Hopefully they will get it under control as they are good mousers. Miss Trampas thought she may hide from some in this water. Silly cat. 

WHAT!

     We have a resident Roadrunner that hangs around in the front pasture.   We have been seeing him for several months and the other day he was playing around in the front yard.  Something even scared him in one of the pictures.  He is so much fun to watch.

Lots of Work , Makes it Look Pretty!

    
     
     Well, we have finally been able to get out and get the fences cleaned off  from all the tumble weeds that that had blown up against them. It is so nice to be able to see them again. We also have two of the corrals cleaned. We ended up burning them on a few nice mornings when there was no wind blowing.  It is just so nice looking out the window and not seeing them all.

     The ducks have sure been enjoying the unusual warm weather we have been having, which means they have been getting their pool filled up when the hoses are not frozen. Cant you just see the look on some of their faces?  Pool Party!!!!!!

     Once we got the tumble weeds cleaned out of one of the runs. We divided the flock.  We had a Rhode Island Red Roaster and hens and we also a Golden Laced Wyandotte Rooster and 2 hens. We took him and the 2 hens plus a few Easter eggers and some other ones and put in this run and a part of the chicken house.  He has a Harem of 13. Nine full grown ones and 2 younger ones.  What we we will be working on is collecting eggs from this group and growing our flock of  Wyandotte.
      The RIR are in another run and another part of the chicken house.  This will be the main flock. Hopefully we will have a good hatching of them this year..  
       We have had to keep the female turkey locked up as she keeps wanting to run off and look for a place to nest.  Cant have that . She has had her wing clipped , but still keeps getting out. So she is on lock down for right now.

     We have our first litter of babies in the rabbit barn. Maxine and Pablo are the Proud parents. She was one of the outside rabbits and had them in a box again during a snow snow storm. So we had to bring her and the babies in.  Everyone is doing well and they are growing fast.

     Egg production has picked back up and we are very happy. No more having to buy eggs.  We are up to about 5 chicken eggs a day and usually 1 duck egg.  Still a ways to go I know.  But that's better than nothing.
