Oh the surprise of it all!

One of the reason we liked this place was because of all the trees that were out here.  Some Pines, Cedars, Elms, along with an apricot, 3 Mulberry trees, an Honey Locust, A Chinese Lantern tree, 2 spirea bushes, 14-15 Lilacs in 3 colors and several others we still dont know what they are.

 Honey Locust tree
 Mulberry
This is one of the unknown trees.  Looks like it is getting flowers on it also.

The ducks and turkeys are growing so fast. In another few weeks the turkeys will be in with the chickens. The turkeys are liking it up away from everyone else.  The 4 white ducks are just about all feathered out.  They are so pretty and the Welsh Harlequin are slow at getting their feathers but are getting really pretty also.  It does look like we will be having more males than females.
The grow outs in the rabbit barn are really getting big and fat.  They will only be with us for another few weeks and then the grow outs in the pen will take their place on the floor.  WE have nesting boxes in 7 cages right now with everyone due on the 12th. Going to be busy here if everyone has kits.
When we bought this place we were told that the land around us was leased out to ranchers for cattle. Well, they have arrived. Last night they wanted to know everything i was doing.
A few nights ago we had a few clouds and made for a really pretty picture.  This was taken looking NE from out house.

I haven getting some flowers planted. I have 2 Knock out Roses. One is looking very pretty.  The other is still trying .  Also planted 5 Blue Bonnets. There is also an Hollyhock coming up from the other people.

WEll , until next week.  Here is a pretty Sunset from early in the week.

Clean-up......... Oh My!

Thursday Mr. 2Moores was home early so we started doing some clean up around the 2Moores Ranch.  There was a lot of low hanging branches and shrubs that needed pruning so we can see what is under therm   You know, SNAKES!!!!  W hen we were done with our part,  the rest of the clean up crew came in to do their part. They sure had fun.

We had already cleaned up 2 evergreen bushes and some limbs off a tree and took all that stuff out to the shooting berm we are building.  Was working on another evergreen and Mr. 2Moores was laying on the ground when I saw something move.  Was too surprised to yell. I said, snake, Snake, SNAKE!  Before he could shoot it , into an old tree stump it went.  Went and got a pick axe and tore it up. Still no snake.  So while he was working on another bush I was raking up all the dead wood. When it started moving.  That time I YELLED , S N A K E !!!!!!    Needless to saw it is the best kind of snake now.   Oh not a rattler.    It was under the bush to the right of hm in the pic. This was actually taken before we saw it the second time.
A few more bushes got the axe, well chain saw today.  One we think is an Chaste tree.
I think I have identified 3 Salt Cedar and as they are water drinkers, they are going.  One came down today.
We also trimmed up several of the cedar trees on the north side of the house. In total we hauled off 4 trailer loads of limbs today. This one was the last and we still are no where near finished. There are also several dead trees that need to come down.

Two sets of little bunnies have been moved to the grow out pen.  They sure love all the new room and the mommies love all the extra room they have and also not having to share their food.

The bigger grow outs sure do enjoy having run of the rabbit barn.  We have moved the hay out of reach of them and now when feeding if
you put the tub down on the floor they are all over it.

There is a row of Lilac bushes out here and I have counted 12-13 of them with leaves and several of them are getting flowers on them.  They are around 2 feet tall or so, so it will be several years before they get really pretty .  But if we can keep them all watered, it will be really pretty on the north side of the house.

Another reason I love living out in the country is.... We grew up in SW Oklahoma and we always had Air Force Planes flying over our house.  Well, we have Air Force Planes from New Mexico that fly here and being behind the Airport the planes and jets are always flying over head.  :)

Until next week.

Sring is here!

Spring is in the air!  So very happy. I have been finding a few more trees around here that are blooming and now just to wait and see what they are.
The veggy garden is starting to grow really well. Onions, Garlic, Lettuce, Radishes, Broccoli, Beets, Kale, Carrots and potatoes are all coming up. Cant wait to harvest the first veggies from it.   The flowers are getting very pretty and walking up the back side walk it smells really good and to add to the flowers is the fish pond that is finally finished.

The little ducks , well not so little anymore are growing so fast.  They started out with 2 water dishes and a garbage can lid to swim in and now have two swimming pools and an old pond form to swim in.  They are so cute.  You go in their room in the morning and open their door and they file out.  At night when it is time to go in the file back in.  They learn so fast.
All the green stuff we have been planting to grow for the rabbits , goats and fowl is coming up great. Soon we will be able to go out and cut fresh greens for everyone.  Hopefully there will be a good crop that we will be able to dry some for winter.
Brent and Heath got the doors made for the other side of the rabbit barn.  They also repaired the big hole in the wall. Now they will have really good air flow in there , plus we bought a misting system to put in there to keep them cool in the summer time.

See yall next next!!

A week on the Ranch!

This has been a fun week. We had some days with wind and some rain so we were able to get some things done around the barn.  On Tuesday due to high wind Brent was home so he worked on the rabbit barn along with our son Heath and took the wall down that divided it to make that area larger and easier to get to all the rabbits. Also the front part of it the dirt had really worn down inside so he put in several big bucket loads with his tractor to raise the floor up.  Now we dont have to step down to go into the barn.  The rabbits that run on the ground sure do like all the extra area to run and dig.  All the cages are now on the walls , nothing in the middle.

On Wed. we had a late start to work due to some rain showers so we decided to clean out a little room in the middle part of the barn to make a nice little Brooder room for the baby ducks and turkeys. There is a lot more room for them to run around and will be a lot easier to clean now.

Our barn cat that came with the property has sure been making herself useful.  Because of all the trash and rubbish that was around the place when we bought it, there is a lot of mice and rats.  She has been helping out with stalking, killing and eating them. Good Smokey.  She is a very friendly cat and loves to be petted, but does not want to be held. So we still have no idea if the kitty is a Mr. or a Miss.  Oh well, she is paying for her food.
Today is the first day of Spring and I am so ready for it . Although I have enjoyed a nice warm fire the last two days while it was wet and cool.  I bought some more daffodils and hyacinths to plant in a back flower bed the other day. Now it is really starting to look like spring around here.  We were told there was an apricot tree here.  Noticed the other day that there was some blooms on it.  It is a rather large tree and I think it probably needs to be pruned a lot.
Brent has been getting to do some work on his shop and just about has all the sheet rock up on the walls now.  Next up the ceiling.   But it is looking really good out there now and should be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter once all is finished.

Until next week,

Busy week on the Ranch

This past week has been really busy.  Brent had a full week cleaning windows.  The weather has been so nice his calendar is getting full.  While he was working I had bunny duty morning and night.  Playing with all the rabbits are so much fun.  The new babies are old enough that them and their mommies have moved back to the rabbit barn.  Last night and this morning we on purpose breed 2 does , while on the floor 1 of the grow outs was being breed.  So hopefully in a month we will have 3 sets of new babies.
The 3 hens finally have new friends to talk to .  Mom and dad came up on Wed. and they brought us 4 hens and a rooster along with a Guinea.  They seem to all be getting along today.  That puts us up to 7 hens.  Yesterday and today we got 4 eggs.  Next time we go to mom and dads we are going to bring back more hens.
Today we went to pick up some baby ducks to raise for eggs and maybe meat.  We also bought 3 Turkeys. We are still on the look out for more Guineas.

We also bought a Nanny goat named Fancy today that may be preg.  Will find out in about 2 months.  Also bought her 3 month old baby.  When Brent was in high school all the guys in FFA were called Goat Ropers. Now he really is. When we were inside the barn finishing up with the new ducks we heard something and went into the chicken coop.  Inside were the chickens and the Nanny goat and the baby.  Cant believe she went thru the small chicken door.  They are in another corral now.

We have the garden area broke up and have the onions and garlic planted.

He has also plowed up some of the pasture and we have started planted stuff for the rabbits to eat.  I have also been planting some spring flowers and we have planted some fruit trees.

Kanga and Robin have settled right in.  Robin wants to be outside with Brent all the time. Kanga likes to set in the windows and look outside at all the birds.

2 Moores Ranch is back on line!!!

Can you see us doing the happy dance?  We finally have internet!!!!!!  Seems like it has been forever.
House is coming along.  A lot of boxes have been unpacked and it is starting to look a lot like our home. The Living room and the Kitchen are done and one of the bathrooms.  Now to get the other rooms looking good.
However there is still boxes in the garage. Oh well, It will all get done.  Brent has gotten his shop up and running and has started making holsters again.
With all the winter we have had Brent had to get the rabbit barn closed up.  A new door on the front and insulation in the cracks up by the roof and it is a lot warmer in there.  Next year it should be a lot better for them.  Right now the mommies with babies are in the chicken house in cages as it is warmer in there. So far so good. The girls dont seem to mind the new guest they  have in their house. Also in a few weeks they will have some new hens and a rooster .  They have been giving us 3 eggs every other day or so.
Brent has been getting out on the tractor and getting the 5 acres of weeds and grass cut down and working the fence line so that we can get the hot wire fence up so that we can get a few goats in the near future.
This picture was taken the day he got the tractor.
      Snow at our new house!

Until next week.  Linda
