Hello from the Rabbit Barn. Thought I would introduce everyone to the main crew. Our first rabbits we bought were two dutches. A male and female. We named them George and Gidget. They were so much fun. They had 2 litters of babies that were so cute. George would get to run the back yard when we lived in town. He was one of our favorites . We were very sad when he was killed by a new puppy we had gotten. We decided to keep Gidget and let her remain as a pet. When it is feeding time she is always by the door of her cage waiting for some loving.

Next is the Duke and Duchess of 2 Moore's Ranch. We went to the fair last year to look and see what we could find. We found this set of Rex's and decided to make them part of our family. What we did not know is that she was already preg. when we bought her. Not knowing this , it was a sad morning when we walked out to the barn and found babies everywhere. I was able to save one. That would be Miss Hershey.
Duke is also a lover and wants to be petted all the time. I had him out of his cage a few weeks back and was brushing him. He just sat there.

This is Miss Hersey. She is the baby that Duchess had. She was a little survivor twice. Saved when there was no nesting box and her body was ice cold to the touch and then also from being bit when she was very little. She has had several litters of babies and what a wonderful mother she is.

Javier was one of the next that we bought right after George and Gidget. We bought 3 females and a male from someone in North Texas and they were transported up here by Brent's Sister. Out the those 4 he is the only one left. The first Elsa, was not a very good mother and had very small litters. Next was Lorelei . She was an awesome mom. Had great babies and she was really friendly. Not sure what happened to her, but she was found dead in her cage about a month ago. Next was Annabelle. She had large litters also , but she had a little territorial problem. She did not like to be in a cage next to anyone else. 2 of our rabbits where bit in cages next to her. Annabelle is no longer with us either. We recently retired her to the outdoor rabbit yard and she disappeared. More than likely is in one of the tunnel systems. She was way to big for a bird of prey to carry off (to our knowledge we have not lost any to birds of prey). Kind of a 2moore's Ranch mystery?

This is Pablo. He is one of the other studs in the rabbit barn. He at times gets to take a run out in the chicken yard. He also goes right to work when it is time to do his job,

This is Jasmine. She is one of the first babies we kept from Lorelei and Javier. She is a very sweet little girl and as you can see she is a big girl. Her litters are usually large and she is a wonderful mom.

Maxine is a baby of Annabelle. She is most of the time a great girl. Likes to be petted until she has babies. Then you may want to be careful when you put your hand in the cage. We have welding gloves for time when some bunny wants to go Psycho on us.

The kitties are growing and exploring more. The other day I walked down to the mailbox to put some mail in the box. I had not looked behind me to see that I was being followed. When I walked back in the gate, there they were. Bad kitties. I don't want them this close to the road. I was dragging my feet on the ground trying to get them to run back to the house.
They are also getting more trusting of Robin. She has never done anything to them. Fred is the one that pics them up and carries them around. But when Robin would walk up to them the fur would stand up on their backs and they would run.

Brent built a Chicken tractor this past week to put some chickens in out in the field to fertilize it and break it up some. Right now there are 10 hens in it.
While he was building it , he had a lot of help. From the get go Trampas was there helping him cut the wood to putting it all together. Trampas even went in to check it out and make sure that it would be suitable for the hens to live in.

   We have 18 new baby chicks this week. They are so many different colors. Cant wait to see what they look like when they get bigger and get their big feathers.
     Yesterday, we worked on the brooder room and put the door that was out there on hinges and then cleaned up the brooder cages for the younger babies to go into . While we were working out there Betsey decided to see if it would be good for the chicks to be in. She looks like she likes it.
     We had to do some surgery on a hen this past week also. She had what is called bumble foot. Had to cut a black spot out of her foot and then remove a growth that grows under it.

We have our ducks in a row again. They are always walking like this. Or should I say waddle. They are being good ducks also and have started using the duck barn to lay their eggs. We have their pond finished and in the process of filling it up. They should be really happy.The tarp we have does not go all the way up the sides so it may be a year or two before it holds water all the way.

Peek a Boo

Prepared for them snakes!

Last week Brent had finished building the duck house/ shelter for the winter. I was able to get one coat of paint on it this past week. Just need to do some touch up work on it. Then we need to get a door on it. The ducks don't seem to care about it right now. Have even tried throwing food in there. All they do is go in and eat it and leave. I have seen a few hens in there but the only thing I have seen using it is the cats. Yesterday Trampas was curled up in one of the boxes sleeping and staying warm.

We did get a small duck egg the other day which means that the younger ducks are starting to lay!!!

Only about 10 rabbits in the outside yard right now, but they sure are eating everything down quick out there. Planted rye grass and a few other seeds to grow for them in their yard. Part of it is sectioned off so that it will have a chance to grow. I have been cleaning up what was left in the garden and giving it to them, plus they have been getting some hay.

The 2 food plots that we planted for them are coming up really good. The one in the old duck yard is growing a lot better as the ducks don't get to munch on it like the one in the pasture.

We had a cold front come in the other day and it has been really nice. The temp has been low and really feeling like fall. I know that it will warm back up some, but this has really been nice. Saturday it rained on and off most of the day and has been raining almost all day today. It has been wonderful! If the fireplace had been cleaned I would of made a fire.

The sunrises and sunsets have been getting really pretty with the changing of the seasons. I have really been enjoying them all. We have been sitting out and enjoying some of the evenings after we get the chores finished watching Fred romp and play.
