A Warm October!

Summer is gone.  We did not even have a fall, per say.  We  had our first freezing temp on the 8th of Nov.  Everyone has been really happy that it stayed warm for so long. The ducks and geese have been enjoying having the warm water.

The hens that have been molting have also enjoyed the warm weather.  My black Easter Egger was really bad this year and the geese were picking on her and my other black hen , so I put then in the Rabbit house until they get all their feathers back.  They may just want to stay in there, lol.

We are down to 4 roosters right now. got rid of the oldest RIR Rooster last month and will be selling the young one next week.  That will leave us with Sunny our Golden Laced and Cedar the younger Golden Laced. And.....

Sunny

Cedar
As it turns out, Salty is not an hen. But he will be staying anyways.  His colors are so pretty and he is very proud of his crowing.

Salty
We have been thinning down our chicken flock. We are down to about 20 hens , along with the 4 roosters. It is sure a lot easier to walk into the run and feed now.  We use to have around 50.  Plus the feed bill is a little less now.

The flock out free ranging in the field.  They sure like scratching around in the grass after it has been cut.

Gertrude enjoying a pumpkin.

Levi sure had a lot of fun the other day out looking at the animals.  He was in the rabbit yard talking and petting them.

The rabbits that we will be keeping have gotten moved into the rabbit barn for the winter.  The others will be getting ready for freezer camp.  We are only going to keep 1 male and 2 females , plus Gidget through the winter.

Last week end we pulled down and moved another dead tree to the shooting berm.  Only one or two more trees to go.
